about

Looking into the sky one cold snowy morning I saw a sundog. There was the sun with a ring around it and two bright orbs. A three headed dog, I thought, and what dog is three headed? Cerberus who guards the gates of hell!! I have never been a fan of winter so equating winter with hell was easy.

Writing the song I had to acknowledge some of the charming and extraordinary things around winter. I have fond memories of vodka freezing on the deck at minus 52, opening the door on a freezing new-years eve and setting the couch in front of it to watch the northern lights as if they were tv. I also remember driving with tyres in weather so cold it froze them flat where they met the ground then being thrown around in the car for twenty minutes until they were finally driven round again. I have to admit, all wonderful memories.

lyrics

Sundog bright
Sundog blue
Sundog light this humming sky
Laying chins upon its paw
And looking down
Cerberus

I poured you vodka hard and slow
Until the bottle let it go
Too cold for drinking
Can’t be good for you
But we’re not those other guys
So we just laugh and down it goes
You know the story
Cerberus

We set the couch before the door
And watched the pulsing sky
Cars push into the quicksilver night
All square-tyred down below
And that rhythm
Is bruised upon our bones
Bruised upon our bones
But we just laugh and on it goes
You know the story
Cerberus
You know the story
Cerberus
